Safety Issues

There are two issues to keep in mind when recommending spinach to your patients.

1. High vitamin K content. This could interfere with blood thinning drugs and anticoagulants such as Coumadin.

2. High oxalic acid content. A magnesium supplement can be prescribed to prevent kidney stones in patients who are prone to form stones.
