I Have Age-Related Macular Degeneration. What Can I Do?

The first thing you need to do is consult an eye care professional. Talk with your doctor and learn what form of the disease you have. There are several things you can do to try and slow the disease.*

If you smoke, STOP.

Eat a serving of spinach every day. If you have a hard time sticking with this, then take Ocuwel every day. Three caplets of Ocuwel are equivalent to a one and one-half ounce serving of fresh spinach.

Take an anti-oxidant supplement. There are several out there. Audax is working on a formula and should have something available in the 2nd quarter of 1999.

If you have the wet form of the disease there may be surgical options that you can discuss with your doctor.

Consider joining a support group.

Don't give up hope! Medical advances are being made and a tremendous amount of research is being done in this area. Macular degeneration is not a hopeless disease.
